For some people on the internet, the discussions on fictional supernatural characters and creepy-past ghost stories are the favorite thing. For some, it’s entirely unpleasant and creeps the best out of them.
Just like the Slender Man, a popular character from 2009 with little to no facial features and long bones, a similar story surfaced on the Internet and successfully managed to creep people out of their comfort zones. A horrific ghost story featuring Teresa Fidalgo.
Who was she? What happened to her? What was so scary with the girl? Let’s get these questions quickly answered.
The Appearance of a Dreadful Footage and Message featuring Teresa Fidalgo:
In 2014, a video spread among masses like wildfire in the forests. The footage featured a group of friends traveling on a mountainous road in Portugal when they were intercepted by a hiker, who introduced herself as Teresa.
The estranged Teresa, sat silent while the friends talked and talked. And soon, she speaks up while pointing to a corner on the same mountain roads. A few moments later, she reveals the spot to be the place where she died. Soon, the camcorder holder, one of the three friends, is attacked brutally and the footage crashes as the face of Teresa flashes the screen one last time.
This is where the car crashes and the friends die. It is rumored to be the place where the actual Teresa Fidalgo, a young woman, passed away in 1983 and that the girl who boarded the car was the ghost of Teresa. This marked a horrendous end to the last known footage of Teresa Fidalgo and the matters settled after a few months.
A few years later, the ghost of the past reappeared. Instagram, one of the most popular internet social media platforms, witnessed the comeback of Teresa Fidalgo. Hundreds and thousands of pictures on the platform were commented with a creepy message, which freaked more and more people every day to take action.
“I am Teresa Fidalgo and if you don’t post this on 20 other photos I will sleep with you forever.” Did it creep you out? The same quote managed to scare people and had them commenting on posts everywhere.
A similar message appeared on other platforms and stated: “If you stop reading this you will die, I am Teresa dialog and if you don’t post this on 20 other photos I will sleep with you forever. A girl ignored this and her mom died 20 days later. You can search me on google”.
Scared teenagers were the quickest to respond as the Internet soared with these words.
Now, you might be wondering:
Is Teresa Fidalgo a reality? What happened to her? Is Teresa going to be beside me? Did the mother from the message really die?
A Touch of Reality: Is Teresa Fidalgo a Hoax or Not?
After some time passed, the source of the video was miraculously found and all such creepy messages and threats began to vanish. Teresa Fidalgo was actually the main character of a Portuguese short film called ‘A Curva’ (literal translation, ‘A Curve’). The movie is critically acclaimed in Portugal and many still believe the story to be true.
The story also rose to popularity because it gave a visual performance to the White Lady Legends stories which have been the center of all ghost stories for ages now. The movie was released in 2003 but surfaced only in 2014 and then again after a few years of being dormant.
The short film was only shot for 12 minutes and only a small part of this movie was edited and thrown around the Internet to make it more suspicious and intriguing for the masses. Although the full film isn’t available on the internet, the parts are still hosted on YouTube, the famous video sharing platform. And, a DVD is also available for those interested in watching the full film at home on a home theater.
David Rebordao, the director and author of the acclaimed short film, took full responsibility for the direction of the film and did confirm the parts to belong to that movie.
One of the three passengers featured in the film was David himself and was killed off in the later parts.
Now, after these back to back incidents, David called the story of Teresa Fidalgo a hoax and assured people that no such character, ghost, or person was on the hunt for the person who ignored a message and neither is their parent or a loved one going to be hurt. This marked the official end of the “Teresa Fidalgo” stories.
A few years after the viral series, a new video surfaced as well which featured David, the author. However, due to the past incidents, the new footage didn’t impress people and was quickly shut down being marked as a scripted, written material with no actual horror involved.
The Internet’s might can’t be ignored when it comes to mainstreaming false content and scaring people away. Mere footage from a short film managed to produce this much hype and fame, what is to follow next?
So, whenever you see a piece of content on the Internet which calls on to supernatural characters, ghosts, and magical creatures, it’s nothing more than a joke and has zero to no authenticity to it. Don’t be afraid of such videos or the threatens made in them as they, once again, have no impact in real life.
So, feel free to sleep in your bed as the ghost of Teresa Fidalgo and all such hoaxes involving creepy characters and supernatural ghosts are fake. Let common sense prevail and understand that no monster or ghost from the Internet or social media can come through to you, simply because you ignored a message.
